Bob Weir; Bobby Cochran, guitar and vocals; Tim Bogert, bass and vocals; Nicky Hopkins, piano; Dave Garland, keyboards and sax; Greg Errico, drums; Graham Smith, harmonica; Freebo, tuba; Mike Rogers, steel drum

"Feel So Bad" is a Little Milton song. I remember hearing it in the late '60s on KMPX - not sure if that was Milton's version, but it was a good one. "Feel so bad, like a ballgame on a rainy day." According to Jeff Courouleau in the chat room, Elvis Presley covered it on his "Something for Everyone" album. And Tim Bogert said after the song that his old band Cactus used to do it, too. Plus: Freebo's tuba solo on "I Found Love" - what a treat!

There's a little edit in "Wharf Rat" to cover a brief glitch in the tape. And of course, I had to bleep "fucker" - by splicing in a musical note.

Steve Kimock's comments on the passing of Ram Rod and Vince Welnick

The Tubes are hosting a tribute to Vince Welnick Sunday July 9, 8pm at the Cafe du Nord in San Francisco. "Open to fans and friends... bring Vince photos and stories to tell!

Please visit The Tubes Project and vincewelnick.com

Special thanks to these kind folks for their assistance in preparing this broadcast: Michele Rundgren, Mike Lawson, Stephen Barncard, Fran Bennett, Gary Lambert, Charlie Miller, Steve Silberman, Henry Kaiser, Tom Lattanand, Jerry and Julie Lawson, Bev Rice, Arielle Phares, Greg Koerner, Robbie Freeman. And extra special thanks to Larry Kelp, host of Sing Out!, for allowing me to fill his time slot with this program.

Looking back over the playlist, I'm somewhat surprised to find so little Grateful Dead music. I listened to a lot of GD, and produced a couple of CDs full, but I wanted to make sure The Tubes were represented - and remember, Vince was with the Tubes for 20 years and with the Grateful Dead for five. I found so much pleasure and musical merit in the Affordables and Missing Man that it felt better, as the evening unfolded, to center on that material. I'll probably play more of the music I gathered on next week's show - and also more of the interviews I excerpted. I'll also post more on the web site, and link to it here on the logblog.
