Bassist Rob Wasserman, longtime collaborator and friend of Bob Weir, died on June 29. His deep and impressive resume included work with the David Grisman Quintet, Lou Reed, and many others. “American Popsicle,” from Wasserman’s wonderful album Trios, features Edie Brickell on vocals and Jerry Garcia on MIDI guitar. Also on that record is the the original version of “Easy Answers” (which the Grateful Dead performed from 1993 to 1995), performed by Wasserman, Weir, and Neil Young, and with a lyric by Robert Hunter. I’ll be rebroadcasting a 1997 interview with Weir and Wasserman in a couple of weeks.
