Two new jams by The Known Unknown

The improvisational ensemble that began when Phil Savell and I jammed at a holiday party last December has been developing nicely. We now have a name – The Known Unknown (web site and all that are coming soon) – and a stable quartet at the core: Phil Savell and David Gans on guitars, Zach Partain on bass, and Neil Hampton on percussion. We have played with a number of keyboardists, each of whom has added a unique flavor to our musical discourse. These two pieces are just the four of us:
  • From 10/8/14 at Second Act on Haight Street in San Francisco, a jam that passed through a deconstruction of a theme from “Playing in the Band”: “Band in the Playing
  • First set of a sweet outdoor session at Roberta Weir’s reception at the Underground Gallery in San Rafael 10/10/14: Set 1

    Support for the Grateful Dead Hour comes this week from The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. One half of the folk duo Simon and Garfunkel, Art Garfunkel, will perform on October 25. Brooklyn-based electronic jamband MUN will perform at the venue’s nightclub Garcia’s on October 16. Featuring live music, a state-of-the-art sound system, and numerous craft beers on tap, the venue’s nightclub Garcia’s is open several nights a week.     Support for the Grateful Dead Hour comes this week from The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. The String Cheese Incident will play a two-night stand on November 11 and 12 at The Cap. Live music and dancing takes place regularly at the venue’s nightclub Garcia’s, a tribute to the late Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia. Grateful Dead and classic rock tribute Stella Blue’s Band, will play Garcia’s DeadCenter on October 1, 8, and 15. Events, information, and ticketing at thecapitoltheatre.com.
