jerrygarcia.com is springing back to life, and a new release from the Jerry Garcia Band archive is in the works. They posted the 6/1/81 “Deal” as a free download, and they sent over an extra bit for me to play on the radio. Enjoy – and please get over to jerrygarcia.com to see what’s brewing.
The Mickey Hart Band is adding more dates. I missed ’em by a day at the Dark Star Jubilee, but I heard great reports about an impromptu drum circle with all of Mickey’s band, members of Dark Star Orchestra, and lots of fans when the weather knocked out the main stage. I saw the MHB at the Gathering of the Vibes and I recommend ’em most highly! Tour dates are posted here.
Melody Walker is a fine young singer-songwriter from the San Francisco Bay Area. Her partner, Jacob Groopman, is a brilliant guitarist and mandolinist, and they sing beautifully together. I’ve been really impressed with the live performances I’ve seen by the pair; their original material is first-rate, and they do some wonderful covers (including Paul Simon’s “Graceland” and a couple of Grateful Dead favorites). They’re going out on a national tour, and I hope you’ll check them out when they pass through your neck of the woods.
