I picked this show more or less at random out of a pile of Spring 1973 shows last month and listened to it on a long drive. I was so impressed with it that I listened to it all the way through a few more times over the course of several days and a couple thousand miles. This is a huge show – a 17-song first set including two longer pieces, and a 15-song second set with several long stretches of thrilling improvisation. Included in this first section is “Wave That Flag,” an early edition of the song that became “US Blues” around a year later. We’re going to spend several weeks with this amazing tape.
