Here is the latest news from David Gans, producer and host of the Grateful Dead Hour.

Grateful Dead Hour no. 1153

Week of October 25, 2010 Part 1 24:51 Bonerama 9/18/10 Red Devil Lounge, San Francisco THE OTHER ONE-> DARK STAR-> THE OTHER ONE Keller and the Keels, from Jerry Jams for Rex MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON Jesse McReynolds and Friends, Songs of the Grateful Dead DAY BY DAY Part 2 30:04 Grateful Dead 3/25/91 Knickerbocker Arena, Albany NY BLACK PETER-> THROWING STONES-> PLAYING IN THE BAND (REPRISE) ~ LOVELIGHT Jesse McReynolds was half of the great bluegrass duo Jim and Jesse, heroes to Jerry Garcia and Sandy Rothman when they went on their cross-country trek in 1964. Sandy gets the credit for inspiring Jesse to create this CD of Grateful Dead songs (and shares producer credit, too), which also includes contributions from David Nelson and Stu Allen. Songs of the Grateful Dead is a splendid musical tribute. The song included in this week’s program is the only non-Dead number – it’s a new song co-written by Jesse and Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter. The Bonerama GD medley was recorded by my old friend Marty Lefkowitz, who also secured permission form the band for me to stick it in your ears. Thanks, Marty!

Jim Page coming to KPFA October 20

My good friend and musical hero Jim Page will perform live in the KPFA performance studio on Wednesday, October 20, from 9 to 10 pm Pacific Time. (Among many other things, he is the composer of “Down to Eugene,” from my CD The Ones That Look the Weirdest Taste the Best.)

If you’d like to join us in the studio audience (at KPFA in Berkeley CA), send an email to david@gdhour.com. I’ll take requests until we’re full up.

Here is a list of Jim’s upcoming shows.

And if you can’t make it to Berkeley to be in the studio audience, please tune and and listen to this great musician and committed social activist. Dead to the World airs Wednesdays 8-10pm Pacific Time on KPFA 94.1 FM in Northern California, and 88.1 KFCF in Fresno, and streaming live on both stations.
