  4. That “Limbo,” from JGB….the first recorded music in a very long time (if not ever) to make me weep.
Hooray and much thanks to Mr Gans from a Bay Area transplant in SE Portland, OR (around the corner from the Aladdin Theater)!

  10. Enjoying David Nelson’s recollections of the ’87 Broadway shows and how they came about. Great that that run of shows happened. Thanks to all who are participating in the marathon!

  11. I’ve been listening on gdradio.net… good sound quality, consistent streaming.

I had to go do some other things, and when I came back I found I had missed something called “Cowboy Movie” … can anyone tell me a bit more about what that was? Sounds like just the kind of thing I would have loved, oh well.

  12. Yeah!
Any votes for ‘best in show’?
Robert Hunter’s nearly stream of conciseness rendition of about half of the songbook from 1978 gets my initial nod…

  13. Cowboy Movie = gnarly sessions from Wally Heider’s some of which were parlayed into classic “If I Could Only Remember My Name” solo album for another David, David Crosby of Crosby Stills Nash And Young

  14. The Cowboy Movie was some insane jammin with JERRY AND NEIL. Mind bending. There is archive of the whole show/marathon at KPFA available on the site for a week or more – go there and check it out before too long – worth it. Jerry AND Neil….

  15. Q Is there any chance of a new remastered version of “If Could Only Remember My Name”?
A Stephen Barncard: “Well, there might be techniques for a better a-d conversion, but those will not remove the hiss, and I refuse to do so using ‘plugins’. If one wants to do that from their own copy, they are free to do so, but any and all techniques for ‘hiss’ removal comes at the peril of trashing the music and dynamics. I haven’t heard any hiss removal that doesn’t sound weird. At least on complex mixes, and I am NOT going to attempt to remix it– at least for stereo. (5.1 hmmmm, subject for another post….) It all comes down to what is called ‘better’. Better to me involves reproducing exactly what is on the master tape as well as one can. The hiss is part of it, and it doesn’t bother me or Crosby. Consider it part of the music as presented at the time. And considering the attitude of Atlantic Records, we supposedly are supposed to bow down and thank our lucky stars that they have allowed it to still be sold. The fact is, they just keep getting those re-orders. What else can explain a record in the stores that is almost 28 years old and still is in the racks? Anyway with their attitude, I doubt that a remastering could be in the works, but I will investigate the possibility. I’d like Dave Collins to do it this time, in his state-of-the-art room at A&M.”
In 2006 the album was finally remastered!
Stephen Barncard (who recorded and mixed the original IICORMN album, and remixed the new release) to 4waysite.com: “There are two separate media in the package. The CD is comprised of the original stereo mixes of IICORMN with bonus track ‘Kids And Dogs’. The DVD-A contains new surround mixes made by me. The surround is presented in several formats, just to make sure it can be played in any player.”

  17. Sweet Adaline?
The song known the world over as something sung by off key inebriates sneaking a pull after closing time in a cellar while air ducts carried the sound somewhere unintended.
Not too bad, singing, as a barbershop quartet considering the point they were demonstrating about the nonexistence of bluegrass

  18. The tune, “Thirsty In The Rain” is outstanding.

Did anybody reading this go to Slim’s for his show?

I keep hoping Peter Rowan has better cough medicine than I.

  19. Thanks for the pointers. I went to the KPFA website. It looks as though they only have the first two segments of the marathon archived on the website… I hope they post the whole thing.
