DEAL

Buddy Miller
is a great, great songwriter and performer. He’s toured in Emmylou Harris’ band for several years, and he’s recorded on his own and with his wife Julie. Check out the version of Richard Thompson’s “KeepYour Distance” on the Buddy and Julie Miller CD, and his reading of Bob Dylan’s “With God On Our Side” on Universal United House of Prayer. Extra big thanks to Rob Bleetstein for a nice clean digital board tape of Buddy doin’ “Deal,” even though he didn’t tell me where and when it was recorded.

  1. I saw Buddy Miller play with Emmylou at the Bridge School Benefit last year on Oct 30th, 2005. The two of them joined Los Lobos for “Little John of God” during Los Lobos’ excellent set near the beginning of the day, a song which they had not played since 1990 according to one report I read.

Emmylou and Buddy played a set of their own later that included nice versions of “Orphan Girl”, “Love Hurts”, and “Imagine.”

I’ll have to check out some of Buddy’s other material.
