I sat in with the New Riders of the Purple Sage on the radio last night, quite unexpectedly. They were playing on my show, and although I have sat in with them a couple of times recently, I didn’t have so much as a guitar pick with me when I got to the station. The invitation was issued, and a guitar and amp (and pick) were produced!
I played and sang on a few of their songs, and took the lead on “Four Strong Winds.” I had suggested it last month in Atlanta, because Buddy Cage played steel with Ian and Sylvia – and because it’s a great song, of course. David Nelson’s response was, “Oh, yes! Anything by Ian Tyson!” So we did it at Smith’s Olde Bar, and after the show some of the band members pronounced it
their favorite song of the evening. So we did it again last night. So sweet.
I’ve been invited to join the fun tonight at the Great American Music Hall, too. Other invitees include most of Ratdog, Peter Rowan, and I’m not sure who else. I’ll be there with my ’56 Les Paul Junior and brand new Fender amp!
