Excerpt from a 1967 CBS news documentary titled The Hippie Temptation.
If you can find the whole program, it’s worth watching. Viewed from the perspective of 40 years later, it’s hilarious, but also pretty scary. A mother tells the story of how her child took acid and saw god – so she sent him to the looney bin “because you don’t see god until you’re dead.”
David, I just played my cassette of the “kofg dead head hour”, broadcast in 1986…remember? Bonnie Simmons sings “Yesterday”, while you attempt to talk about the KPFA Marathon.
The show was titled The Hippie Temptation pt. 2 – and included sound from the feature linked to here, as well as some live gd recordings. Tape runs out after 45 mins – what I have on tape was neat and I can’t find a “dead hour” log page that goes that far back.
Do you have the log from that show?
12-3-86 KFOG….
And, I’ll copy it for you if you need it.
Mike.
I was the young blonde with flowers painted on my face that is seen at the very beginning of that one sided piece of Establishment propaganda… and nO I did not give them permission to film me! Just the opposite! I was approached in the Panhandle and said no no no and told them how the Diggers had told me and other hippies how CBS’s so-called documentary was going to be a acid equivalent to Reefer Madness! So OF COURSE they had to film me! That clip has been shown in everything from 60 Minutes to Time-Life series on rock and roll to America’s Most Wanted! Someone has made a bucketload of money off of MY FACE and it sure as heck hasn’t been mE ( I could use the money too, believe you me ). Btw, there is a Hippie Cid site on my website ( under Scanned ) at http://community-2.webtv.net/JustMySites/ which has some other pics of me from that time period for a comparison. Btw, the band playing that day was Country Joe. It was April 14, 1967 and the next day I was a monitor in the Peace March in San Francisco.
