Tony Trischka is a New jersey-based banjo picker. Some time ago he was given a tape of an early-’60s bluegrass performance by Jerry Garcia, Robert Hunter, David Nelson et al. that included a Garcia original, “Jerry’s Breakdown.” What you’ll hear in this week’s program is Tony’s appearance last January in the American Beauty Project in New York, including his onstage interview with emcee John Schaefer, his solo medley of “Jerry’s Breakdown” and “Pig in a Pen,” and a brief interview with me after the show. Visit Tony’s web page for lots more information about him and news of upcoming appearances, including Late Night with David Letterman on April 26 with Steve Martin and Béla Fleck!
