San Francisco’s KALW 91.7 is airing a Bo Diddley tribute by Paul Ingles tonight at 10pm PDT. Along with many of Bo Diddley’s signature tunes, Ingles showcases music from The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, George Thorogood, Shawn Colvin, Pete Townshend, Joe Jackson, U2 and others – all who crafted songs based on Bo Diddley’s famous syncopated beat. Check your local public radios tation’s listings to see if they’re airing it (not necessarily tonight – i’s a syndicated program).
Here are some obits of Bo Diddley:
He thrilled teenagers, terrified parents and belted out a beat that crossed continents, cultures and class. – Richard Williams in The Guardian (UK)
I first saw Bo Diddley, who died yesterday, at a small club in Montreal called the Esquire Showbar when I was 15. – Phil Bronstein on The Gate (San Francisco)
Perfect time for a listen to Dick’s Picks Volume 30.
Before him ,there was none, while he was here, he was the one. Now that he is gone, there is no one. He was “the Mighty Bo Diddley”.
