Tom Davis’ memoir

I’m reading Tom Davis‘s memoir, Thirty-Nine Years of Short-Term Memory Loss. I’m about half way through, and enjoying it immensely. Tons of Grateful Dead references and stories in it, including a wonderful description of the 2/9/73 show at Stanford’s Maples Pavilion with its sprung floor.

I am interviewing Tom next week for the GD Hour, and we’re also going to put together a guest DJ show for the Sirius XM Grateful Dead channel. I’m really looking forard to seeing him again. Last time we met was at Phil Lesh’s house circa 1984.

He’s on tour to promote the book right now. He’ll be in Berkeley next Wednesday, with Dennis McNally and (I’m pretty sure he said) Don “Father Guido Sarducci” Novello: Wednesday, March 18th, 7:30pm at BERKELEY ARTS AND LETTERS/ First Congregational Church, 2345 Channing Way at Dana, Berkeley. 1. I haven’t seen Davis’ book yet, but the inclusion of Guido Sarducci on the tour is a reminder that the good Father was in the broadcast booth for the national telecast (!), on USA, of the the 1985 New Year’s Eve show.
