  1. IWPML really worked for me. The juxtapositions felt natural in the same way that they do in the Love soundtrack remixes do. It can be hard for us to hear these songs in a new way but this is a pleasant journey.

Norwegian Boy worked better for me live. I think the percussion was a little jarring and distracted from the rest of the work, especially in the first third of the tune. The embellishments there didn’t seem to flow and contributed to a disjointed feel that the other two songs don’t have. Maybe putting it lower in the mix would help. As it is the extraneous sounds make the transitions between songs seem forced in a way that they don’t in the other two numbers.

Sun is a revelation. The familiar work gets a wholly new treatment that is fresh and welcome. I’d never want to not know the original but this version stands on its own. There is something exciting going on here that could catch fire with lots of traditional Beatles fans.

This is wonderful work. Thanks for sharing it.

  2. Wow. Really incredible harmonies!
It took me a minute to realize about the first song…..great effect and a
nice surprise. I thought that Norwegian Boy was even more of a surprise,
because I thought going in it would be the same, but it wasn’t. And again,
the harmonies. Here Comes the Sun has always been a fave of mine and I
love the treatment you all gave it. Really nice all around!

  3. Great stuff. My first time listening to the Rubber Souldiers. It would be great to have an L.A. show. Norwegian Boy was my favorite but they were all a lot of fun.

  4. Marvelous interpretations. The harmonies and instrumentation are wonderfully sung and played. The flow between songs is fascinating. The improvisations and origingal material approach seamlessness. I’d love to hear more of this.

  7. That was great, David. I have to say that Please Please Me is my all-time favorite Beatle song, and the RS mashup of it with It Won’t Be Long was truly inspired. And Here Comes the Sun was fab. When the record comes out, you have a sale. And do come to the East Coast some time!

  8. Really enjoyed these recordings while suffering paperwork misery. A great lift. I’d like them on an album so I can keep them in the regular rotation, please!

  9. Great stuff as always from the Rubber Souldiers. I especially liked the vocal nod to Here Comes Sunshine in Here Comes the Sun. These guys really should be part of the festivities at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in Golden Gate Park this October. If you agree, contact them at the following address and suggest that they book the lads.

  10. I listened to the demos last week and have been meaning to comment that I think the vocal harmonies and instrumental interplay really comes through crisply in these demos.

I’ve enjoyed the live recordings for their spontaneity and the flow of songs from one to another, but the little nuances are all captured in these studio recordings.

Nice job and I will also be looking forward to the full album!

  12. David, Lorin & Chris – stupendous and just beautiful…I am sure that Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, Starr & Garcia would be proud!

Thanks for filling the airwaves with such beautiful music and extending the legacy of the four lads (and yourselves!).
