Gans gig update: DEADTRONICA and beyond!

Friends –

Following a busy and fun-filled summer on the road, I’m back in the Bay Area till the end of the year, with a satisfying variety of musical opportunities right here at home and some community service opportunities also on my plate.

Friday, October 29 will be the debut of Deadtronica. I’ll be playing guitar with keyboardists Bob Bralove and Tom Constanten, working with a collection of musical grooves created by Bralove and using our favorite Grateful Dead songs as frameworks for improvisation. I’m really excited about this; we had a great time at rehearsal yesterday before TC took off for the World Series, and since the Giants won I expect TC will be in a great mood at today’s rehearsal. Here’s a story about Deadtronica.

(P.S. 10/29 is also my birthday, and I’m happy to be spending it making music with these wonderful improvisers.)

I was elected to the Local Station Board of KPFA, and although I won’t be officially seated until December, there’s a lot going on there right now and so I’m already hard at work. First foremost is the need for money (of course!), so if you can spare a few bucks to keep America’s first listener-sponsored radio station on the air, please visit https://kpfa.org/support and make a donation online. Every dollar helps, and no gift is too small, so please do what you can.

In the list of shows below you will note a Rex Foundation benefit concert titled The Wheel – A Musical Celebration of Jerry Garcia. Performers include the David Nelson Band, Peter Rowan’s Bluegrass Band, and Jesse McReynolds. I will be participating as well, musically and in other ways. These Rex events always turn out to be sweet family reunions as well as engaging musical performances, and of course the Rex Foundation has been doing good things in the world for more than 25 years. Please join us if you can. h

My performance schedule is posted at dgans.com/gigs.html – new gigs are being added all the time. My CDs are available at CDBaby.

I’m also offering my first online-only release, via livedownloads.com: the recording of my 9/4/10 house concert at Club Meg in Missoula, Montana. Available in high-res, CD quality, and MP3 at livedownloads.com

Thank you for your kind attention and support – for my music and for the causes I espouse. I hope to see you soon!

– DG

As always, I’m in the market for house concert opportunities. If you see an open spot on my schedule in your general vicinity, let’s try to make something happen! And remember: word of mouth is pretty much all we have these days, so if you like my music, please spread the word about these gigs and these recordings – the free ones as well as the for-sale ones.

“Life Is a Jam” is a studio recording with me on guitar and vocals, Mark Karan (Jemimah Puddueduck, Ratdog) on lead guitar, Mookie Siegel (David Nelson Band) on keyboards, Joe Kyle, Jr (The Waybacks) on bass, Dave Brogan (ALO) on drums, and Zac Matthews (Hot Buttered Rum) and Bear Kittay on background vocals. The download package and promo CD contain three versions of the song, each with a unique jam – a total of about 27 minutes of music for your money! https://www.dgans.com/liaj/download – and we still have a few copies of the limited-edition promo CD available at https://www.dgans.com/liaj/

“Life Is a Jam/After Break” – the “A” side – is now available for download from CDBaby for a mere 99 cents.
