Doobie Brothers, World Gone Crazy
YOUNG MAN’S GAME
I have a special place in my heart for 1970s rock legends the Doobie Brothers. I knew them before they were famous. My friend, the late Dave Shogren, was their very first bass player, and I used to hear them rehearsing in a basement in San Jose, California. I enjoyed watching their climb to fame and fortune through a great number of personnel and musical changes. I was delighted to hear this new CD, World Gone Crazy, with original front men Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons contributing terrific songs, brilliant singing, and a powerful three-guitar lineup aided by the great John McFee. Here are some photos I took of the Doobie Brothers on their “Farewell tour” in 1982.

Yes, the old Doobie Bros were a good band. Some of them are still up in the Santa Cruz mountains. They used to rehearse and party at a house on Branciforte Drive over in Santa Cruz too. Roadie Bill Craddock used to build their custom Harley choppers at a bike shop on the west side. Then he’d paint up the gas tanks to look like a 60s rock poster.
These day, the Doobies are plugging that corporate country music theme park in Branson Missouri…
Yes,I’ve been a Doobies fan as long as I’ve loved the Dead.Many a time I’d put The Captain and Me on right after Mars Hotel.I still love that album and have managed to learn a few guitar parts off it.Thanks for mentioning them and I enjoyed the program.
