Kickstarter update: still seeking support!

My Kickstarter campaign for It’s a Hand-Me-Down has met its goal!

It’s a Hand-Me-Down is a studio CD of my “solo electric” interpretations of Grateful Dead songs. Set for release on November 24, right after my book (with Blair Jackson) This Is All a Dream We Dreamed: An Oral History of the Grateful Dead is to be published by Flatiron Books.

I’m still looking for support for the CD project. The actual budget for this record is several thousand dollars more than I requested.

Two things to say about that:

1. I wanted to keep the Kickstarter goal in a reasonable range (and I think this is in the upper range of reasonable).

2. I have been selling various items of memorabilia over the last several months to finance the recording. I made a deal to sell a Jim Marshall print (that would have netted several K for the project); it’s been several months since I made that arrangement but the payment has not arrived. It’s starting to look like the sale isn’t going to happen. (Anybody want to buy a really cool Jim Marshall photo (actually 12 images) of the Grateful Dead?).

So: If you haven’t signed up to participate in this project, please do – and please continue to spread the word. Every overpriced autographed CD I sell ahead of the release is a stepping stone toward making this project profitable! And for a commitment of $100 or more you can get an exclusive CD of unreleased studio recordings of original songs, titled You Are Here.

Thanks again and again for all your help with this! I feel blessed.
