More BHC/DG: in the studio

The day after our live performance at Stephen F Austin High School, Barton Hills Choir director Gavin Tabone brought me to his classroom at Barton Hills Elementary to record a vocal on “Uncle John’s Band,” for the Choir’s second album of Grateful Dead songs. After we recorded the vocal, Gavin surprised me by handing me a brand-new acoustic guitar and asking me to christen it with a second contribution to the song.

Here is the result: Uncle John’s Band by the BHC and David Gans

The Choir’s arrangement is in the key we’re all used to (G), but the groove is different. I enjoyed the challenge of coming up with something new that served the music.

  1. What an amazingly wonderful collaboration!
The intertwined scales of age, innocence and experience really bring together a sunsational delight in harmony, melody, music and magic.
Thank you all involved in making this treat, greatful to the core!
