The Capitol Theatre and Garcia’s in Port Chester, New York. Wednesdays at Garcia’s are dedicated to, you guessed it, the Grateful Dead. Nyack’s own Dead Meat honors the music you know and love on Wednesday, January 3. Events, information, and ticketing at thecapitoltheatre.com.
More BHC/DG: in the studio
The day after our live performance at Stephen F Austin High School, Barton Hills Choir director Gavin Tabone brought me to his classroom at Barton Hills Elementary to record a vocal on “Uncle John’s Band,” for the Choir’s second album of Grateful Dead songs. After we recorded the vocal, Gavin surprised me by handing me a brand-new acoustic guitar and asking me to christen it with a second contribution to the song.
Here is the result: Uncle John’s Band by the BHC and David Gans
The Choir’s arrangement is in the key we’re all used to (G), but the groove is different. I enjoyed the challenge of coming up with something new that served the music.
DG with the Barton Hills Choir
On Saturday, December 2, 2017, I performed with the Barton Hills Choir in Austin, Texas. Here is a YouTube clip with three selections from the program. More to come!
