Here is the latest news from David Gans, producer and host of the Grateful Dead Hour.
The Cassette Tape Skeleton!
Sunflower macro
I got my Canon G6 back from repair, so I went to the Grand Lake Farmers’ Market to make use of the “super macro” feature. Take a look at my Sunflower macro series.
I also have a large collection of original Grateful Dead images on flickr; my main page at flickr has links to other sets: musicians, the American southwest, water textures, and more.

Coming up on “Tales from the Golden Road” Lyrics!
Gary Lambert’s blurb from DeadNet:
On the next “Tales From The Golden Road” – How Does The Song Go?: Grateful Dead Lyrics
On Sunday, July 13, “Tales From The Golden Road” on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Grateful Dead Channel will be all about the words, when hosts David Gans and Gary Lambert welcome author/scholar David Dodd, creator of the invaluable web resource known as the Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics, which Dodd adapted into a fascinating and beautifully illustrated book in 2005. We’ll be examining the historical and folkloric roots of many of the Dead’s most beloved songs, and discussing the many different things those songs have meant to many different Dead Heads.
If you’ve got a favorite lyric you’d like to share — words that have moved you, inspired you, given you solace in times of sorrow or just plain cracked you up — please join the conversation, by calling 888-89-SIRIUS.
“Tales From The Golden Road” airs live on Sunday afternoons from 4 to 6 pm ET on Sirius 32, the Grateful Dead Channel, with repeat broadcasts every Monday at 9 am ET and Tuesday at 5 pm ET.
If you aren’t already a subscriber, you can sign up or a free three-day online trial at sirius.com/gratefuldead

Syracuse’s WAER-FM named best jazz station
JazzWeek magazine, the jazz industry’s top radio-reporting publication, has named Syracuse’s National Public Radio station, WAER-FM, as Station of the Year for its market size.
WAER 88.3, known as Jazz 88, was recognized for preserving the jazz format through daily jazz programming, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and in the evenings and early-mornings from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Joe Lee, the station’s general manager for the past 16 years, said he relishes his work here because public radio is a “mainstay as the last source for art and culture in radio.â€
Longtime Music Director Eric Cohen agrees.
“WAER’s purpose as a commercial-free, listener-supported station is to entertain and inform,†Cohen said. “Our objective it to competitively serve the greater Syracuse area as a licensed broadcast service of Syracuse University, by providing high-quality, dependable programming.â€
WAER has been a Grateful Dead Hour affiliate for many years. It’s an honor to be part of their lineup!
Thanks to Jim Bona for forwarding the story.
