This blog accepts comments. I thought it would be interesting to start what the political bloggers call an “open thread” and invite readers to say hello. If you’re so inclined, introduce yourself and let us know what’s on your mind. We could have some ongoing discussions in here if there is enough interest.
hi! I’m John. Longtime listener, first time replier. I run http://www.gdradio.net . I’m freezing cold and ready for Spring. Have a good week, everyone!
HEY NOW ! ! !
I have a confession to make:
Forgive me fellow Heads for I have sinned . . . I missed the Marathon for the 1st time in 5 years.
We moved in to our new house a week ago (it’s a new house) and found out the hard way that cable was never installed (we have tv-phone-internet through Time Warner Cable). Since it have been 20 degrees (in KC) for month and will be for another, we can’t have cable run for awhile.
So I just put in my Dead cd collection and ‘let the good times roll’ . . . however, I am enjoying the archives on KPFA at work this week.
Be Well,
DankyDug
I feel fortunate that I was able to tune in for my 14th consecutive KPFA Marathon this year… been a DTTW listener since ’94 and first discovered the GD Hour in ’93. I’ve also been fortunate enough to see DG live in concert once and hope to catch more of his shows in the future.
I also like the new “Tapers’ Section” on dead.net and have been avidly downloading some of the gems that the other David has been posting there. It’s been fun to read some of the details behind those recordings.
Also enjoyed reading Blair Jackson’s new book, “Grateful Dead Gear”, and thanks again to DG for having him on your show to talk about.
Cheers to all,

Howdy, I recently got XM radio and am able to listen to the Dead Hour again regularly which is great. I used to listen religiously on WXRT in Chicago, but since I moved to Michigan I haven’t listened much.
Additionally, I made the trek out to NYC to see The American Beauty Project last month and was re-reminded how versatile and timeless GD music really is. Those two nights were really special. It was cool to hear a few tracks during the marathon, but I sure hope they release this stuff officially some day.

We missed the marathon as well, first time in we can’t remember how long. It simply couldn’t be helped. Currently making up by listening to the stream in the archives of kpfa.org.
We support very few charities, being a poor, honest working folks, KPFA is one we always support. The amount of pleasure provided over the deacades is beyond monetary measure.
So sorry we missed the live event.
We never miss the GD Hour, a new blessing each week that keeps the spirit alive!

About the comments on the new Tapers Section at dead.net. I personally find this to be one of the greatest things that could’ve happened since Rhino took over. NYE 76 is a great commercial start, but the Tapers Section is like getting a weekly special peak into the vaults. I have found almost all of it to be of superior sound quality, of intersting historical value, and reading David’s weekly blog posts is a nice accompanyment while downloading and listening.
I would have to give Rhino a solid A for their first steps. All positive, all good, all coming from a place of respect to the legacy of the GD and the treasure that is the vault.
